Indefinite Listing Privilege (ILP) explained

What Is the Indefinite Listing Privilege Program (ILP) and What Can It Do For You and Your Dog?

The Indefinite Listing Privilege Program (ILP) is designed to allow dogs that are ineligible for registration, but are distinguishable as a member of an AKC remittable breed, to participate in AKC Companion and Performance Events. The AKC Events that a dog enrolled in the ILP program can participate in are:

Agility Trials (All Breeds)
Obedience Trials (All Breeds)
Tracking Tests (All Breeds)
Herding Tests & Trials ( Herding Breeds, Rottweilers & Samoyeds)
Earthdog Trials (Small Terriers & Dachshunds)
Hunt Tests (Most Sporting Breeds & Standard Poodles)
Lure Coursing (Sighthounds)
Junior Showmanship (All Breeds)
Once enrolled in the ILP program, entering AKC events is as easy as with a registerable dog. The only difference is that instead of an AKC registration number, you would list the dog's ILP number on the Entry form.

How can you apply for enrollment into the program?

Applications for enrollment into the Indefinite Listing Program can be downloaded (link to downloadable ILP form) or by emailing ILP@akc.org. When requesting a form via email please include your name and current mailing address. The information that must be submitted with the ILP application is:

A Completed ILP application
2 Color photographs of your dog. One standing in profile, one head on showing the facial characteristics of the dog.
Proof from a Veterinarian that the dog has been spayed/neutered.
A 25-dollar application fee.
Once compiled, the ILP Application and additional information should be mailed to:

The American Kennel Club/ILP
P. O. Box 37933
Raleigh, NC 27627-7933

If after review it is determined that the dog is not eligible for enrollment in the program, the 25-dollar fee will be returned to the applicant.

Enrollment in the Indefinite Listing program is not to be construed as an alternative form of registration, but rather, as a listing so that dog who are ineligible for AKC registration may participate in AKC Companion and Performance Events. An ILP may be cancelled for cause.

Over 2000 dogs were granted ILP numbers in the year 2001, and The American Kennel Club awarded over 2000 AKC titles to ILP dogs in that same year. Enrollment in the ILP program is easy and the benefits for you and your dog are endless.
